Cabrach are a traditional ceilidh band from Aberdeen and Stonehaven, but more than that we are a group of three (sometimes 4/5) accomplished musicians whose common love of great tunes brought us together in the lively traditional music scene of north-east Scotland.
Our sound is a balanced blend of the instruments which include Fiddle, Tenor Banjo and Guitar. Other instruments such as Mandola, Bouzouki and Bohdran are sometimes included. You can also hear us at our myspace page.
Not only do we play functional tunes for dancing, the band's philosophy is to guarantee that people will want to dance though our blending of traditional with new and exciting tunes drawn from the thriving Scottish, Irish, European and Cape Breton traditional music scenes as well as the introduction of some of our original compositions.
The band's main strength is the friendship between the musicians. We create more than just a standard sound, our dynamic musical line up complements our fresh approach, producing music which is equally great to dance to at ceilidhs or to sit and listen to at performances.
We don't just 'go through the motions', our enjoyment of playing new and old tunes that we love is always evident in the atmosphere that we create on stage and which infectiously spills over onto the dancefloor. This is often commented upon by those who attend.
We perform the most well known ceilidh dances as well as a few lesser known ones. We are also willing to learn new dances, tunes or songs, if requested. All dances are Called. ( 'Walk Throughs').
